CID Attaches Assets Worth Tk 250 Crore of Salman F. Rahman and Associates

Dhaka: The Financial Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has attached assets worth approximately Tk 250 crore belonging to Salman F. Rahman, a former adviser to the ousted Prime Minister, as well as his associates and organizations, according to a CID press release. Salman F. Rahman, recognized for his ownership of Beximco Group, Apollo Apparels Limited, and Kanchpur Apparels Limited, is under scrutiny for alleged money laundering activities.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Salman and his associates are accused of using 21 Letters of Credit (LC) and Sales Contracts under two organizations-RR Global Trading FZE and Saif Lounge, owned by his son Ahmed Shahriar Rahman-to export goods worth $260,14,984 on multiple occasions between 2020 and 2024. This operation allegedly facilitated the laundering of money under the guise of foreign trade. The CID is actively investigating a money laundering case in this context.

The investigation reveals that the accused utilized this scheme to export goods to organizations linked to them, with the intent of laundering money abroad. The assets, including several properties established on 2000 decimal of land in Dhaka’s Dohar Thana area, have been attached by the court. Additionally, Ahmed Shahriar Rahman owns significant properties, such as a flat in the Envoy 84 building at Gulshan-2 and another duplex flat in the Triplets building in the Gulshan Residential Area, both of which have been confiscated.

The CID’s Financial Crimes Unit previously filed 17 cases against Salman F. Rahman and his associates, accusing them of laundering $83 million through trade-based money laundering to various countries. The current market value of the attached properties is estimated at Tk 250 crore.
