Kathmandu: Major opposition party leader and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has argued that the issue of the corruption control law was not only technical, as it was interconnected with the conscience of the people.
Taking part in the discussions on the bill designed to amend the Corruption Control Act 2059 BS at the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee today, Former Prime Minister Dahal stressed on serious discussions on the bill as the issue was broader therefore statute of limitation in corruption case is debatable.
He said that there should be serious discussion about the limitation in investigation and filing of cases related to corruption. “What limitation should be applied to corruption cases?” As soon as the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) registers the case, is it right to be suspended from the post? The case is not over until the court makes a final decision that the accused is guilty”, former Prime Minister Dahal said, “Should we arrange for
suspension until the court makes a decision.
Similarly, Nepali congress lawmaker Gagan Kumar Thapa was of the opinion to make National Vigilance Centre more active for investigation in corruption related cases.
MP Thapa emphasized that the active National Vigilance Center should also be strengthened in the governance sector of the country. Mentioning that due to the weak investigation, it has been seen that the verdict is given in favor of the defendants in the case filed in the court, he said that the CIAA should conduct a thorough investigation.
