CPN (UML) Chooses Kathmandu for 11th National Congress

Kathmandu: The 11th National Congress of the CPN (UML) is scheduled to be held in Kathmandu. The party secretariat meeting held today in Gundu, Bhaktapur, and presided over by Chairman KP Sharma Oli, decided to hold the National Congress in Kathmandu instead of Pokhara, according to UML Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the UML’s Central Committee meeting held in Kathmandu from October 15 to 17 had initially decided to hold the general convention in Pokhara from December 13 to 15. The decision to relocate the congress to Kathmandu marks a shift from the previous plan. Previously, the party’s Ninth National Congress was also convened in Kathmandu, whereas the 10th National Congress took place in Chitwan on November 26-28, 2021.

Around 2,100 delegates are expected to participate in the party’s 11th National Congress. Deputy General Secretary Gyawali mentioned that today’s Secretariat meeting finalized the criteria for selecting representatives, with approximately 2,100 delegates anticipated to attend. He explained that representatives for the Congress would be selected nationwide on November 29.

According to Deputy General Secretary Gyawali, there will be 354 representatives from the Central Committee, 29 from the Disciplinary Commission, 30 from the Central Audit Commission, and 25 each from the Central Election Commission and the Central Advisory Council. In addition, about 900 participants will be drawn from the House of Representatives electoral constituencies, the district committees, and provincial committees.
