Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has emphasized that critical awareness is essential for enabling and prospering democracy.
According to National News Agency Nepal, President Paudel made these remarks during the ‘Rajeswor Nepali Felicitation Book’ launching ceremony, organized by the Rabindra Shah Memorial Foundation to commemorate the 83rd birth anniversary of Rajeswor Nepali. He stressed that democracy should be regarded not only as a governance system but also as an opportunity to transform the country by internalizing it as a lifestyle.
President Paudel called for collective efforts to fulfill the pivotal responsibility of building a nation committed to socialism, grounded in democratic norms and values. He urged for a rekindling of hope and optimism among the populace.
Highlighting the intertwined nature of democracy and journalism, President Paudel asserted that professional journalism plays a crucial role in strengthening democracy. He stated that journalism can effectively fulfill its responsibilities only within a democratic framework. “Because of this,” he noted, “the relationship between democracy and journalism is inseparable. It must be further strengthened by dedicating both politics and journalism to socio-economic transformation and the improvement of people’s daily lives.”
President Paudel also paid tribute to Rajeswor Nepali, recognizing him as a dedicated democratic fighter and nationalist. He praised Nepali’s fearless journalism, simple lifestyle, and high ideals as inspirations for societal transformation. Nepali, known for upholding his identity as a press and democratic fighter, and as a poet, made significant contributions to language, literature, and culture while remaining devoted to democratic values and ideology.
