Crossbred goats distributed to cooperatives


The agricultural cooperatives having women members have been distributed crossbred goats in the district.

According to the Veterinary Hospital and Animal Services Centre here, goats of modern breed were distributed to the agricultural cooperatives, which would be provided later to 677 women farmers from backward class.

The women are associated to 25 agricultural cooperatives operative in the district.

Kaviraj Kathayat, information officer at the centre, said that 648 crossbred goats were distributed in the fiscal year 2080/81 to improve the livelihood of Dalits, single women, and young people under the programme of disadvantaged target groups. He informed that underprivileged women associated to agricultural cooperatives were selected for the entitlement in full subsidy.

Kathayat further informed that rearing hybrid goats will result in better products, thereby improving the livelihood of the poor and backward people.

Even the medicines, training and technical support were handed over along with goats
to attract poor women towards commercial goat rearing.

It is said farmers are attracted to goat rearing in the district of late. They have registered the commercial farm of goat in the district office.
