Cyclone Arnab Threatens Heavy Rain and Snowfall in Nepal

Kathmandu:Cyclone Arnab, developing over the Bay of Bengal, poses a risk of heavy rain and snowfall in Nepal, warns the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). The public is advised to stay vigilant as the cyclone is expected to influence Nepal’s weather on October 30 and 31, potentially bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

According to National News Agency RSS, the weather in many parts of the Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces may be affected by moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and strong winds. Some areas could experience heavy rain, while parts of Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces might also see rainfall.

NDRRMA Spokesperson Ram Bahadur KC noted that the Nepal Meteorology Department had anticipated the cyclone’s impact on Nepal starting Friday. High-hill and Himalayan regions face the additional threat of heavy snowfall, snowstorms, and avalanches, which could endanger travelers and local communities.

The Authority has advised people to avoid traveling to high-altitude areas unless necessary, stay away from riverbanks and flood-prone locations, and follow official weather updates. In case of emerging threats, the public should move to safer areas. For assistance, individuals can contact 1155 for weather information, 1234 for disaster support, 100 for Nepal Police, and 1144 for Tourist Police.
