Cyclone ‘Arnab’ to Bring Heavy Rainfall and Snowfall to Nepal

Kathmandu:The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has reported that Cyclone ‘Arnab’, originating from the Bay of Bengal, has already impacted the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and is causing cloud cover in parts of Nepal. As a result, rain is expected across various regions of the country starting Thursday.

According to National News Agency RSS, Meteorologist Binu Maharjan from the Department indicated that the cyclone’s impact could lead to heavy to very heavy rainfall across various provinces in Nepal, with snowfall expected in mountainous regions. Currently, partial cloud cover is observed in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, with light rain having occurred in some areas of Lumbini Province this morning.

This weather system is anticipated to persist until Saturday, bringing cloud cover, rain, and snowfall to Nepal. Moderate rainfall is projected for most places in the mountainous regions of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Similar conditions are forecast for the hilly and Tarai regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Maharjan further noted the possibility of heavy rainfall in several areas, and extremely heavy rainfall in select locations within Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces. In Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, rain may be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and hail in some areas.

The Department has advised the public to exercise caution as the expected rainfall could affect agricultural activities, mountaineering, trekking, and tourism. Farmers, particularly those harvesting paddy, are encouraged to monitor weather forecasts and plan accordingly. Tourists in high-hilly and mountainous areas are advised to stay in safe locations until conditions improve.
