Dairy Farmers in Gorkha to Receive Cash Subsidy for Milk Production

Gorkha: The dairy farmers in Gorkha district will be provided with a cash subsidy for milk production, as announced by the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Centre, Gorkha. The Centre has allocated a budget to provide a subsidy of Rs 5 per litre based on the product, according to the Chief of the Centre, senior veterinarian Dr. Ananta Koirala.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the Centre has set aside Rs 1.5 million for the fiscal year 2025/26 to support milk subsidies. Chief Koirala stated, “We planned to provide subsidy in cash to the farmers producing milk so they would be encouraged for more production, thereby making the district self-sufficient in milk.” He also mentioned that the scheme aims to attract more farmers towards animal husbandry.

An arrangement has been made to collect and sell the milk produced by farmers through cooperatives listed by the Centre. These cooperatives are required to collect or sell at least 200 litres of milk. The funding is expected to cover 300 thousand litres of milk in the district this year under this scheme. The grant will be provided to farmers through these cooperatives.
