Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has expressed the government’s intolerance towards the damage inflicted on the industry and business sector by unruly groups amidst the Gen Z movement. Speaking at the ‘National Economic Debate 2.0’ organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), she emphasized the government’s commitment to providing immediate relief to the affected private sector and rebuilding their confidence.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Prime Minister Karki stressed the government’s dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring security for the private sector. She condemned bribery, political levies, and commission networks, stating that such practices are unacceptable under the guise of democracy. The PM highlighted the importance of good governance for achieving social justice and economic growth, acknowledging the challenges faced by the business community.
Prime Minister Karki assured that the government is working to stabilize the banking and financial sector through Nepal Rastra Bank and addressing policy complications to improve the business environment. As the country prepares for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026, she expressed confidence in a sustainable democratic process.
Finance Minister Rameshore Khanal reiterated the government’s efforts to restore the private sector to its pre-Gen-Z movement state. He emphasized ongoing discussions with the private sector to create a business-friendly environment and decentralize tax administration services to build trust within the business community.
Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal highlighted the government’s role in protecting citizens and addressing private sector concerns. He stressed the importance of fortifying the economy’s foundation and securing its components through collaboration between the government and the private sector. Aryal noted that 380 individuals have been apprehended, with legal action initiated against 150, ensuring security for industrialists and entrepreneurs.
Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies Anil Kumar Sinha announced the government’s focus on amending legal provisions hindering industrial development. The Ministry aims to prioritize issues crucial for maintaining an active economy, providing support to industrialists.
Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal emphasized the need for domestic employment generation to reduce reliance on overseas work. Meanwhile, Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Dr. Bishwanath Poudel, encouraged the private sector to conduct business with confidence.
During the event, private sector representatives urged the government to address concerns by creating a conducive environment for industrialists and businesspeople, enacting business-friendly laws, and streamlining service delivery.
