Kathmandu:The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a warning about the possibility of significant weather changes across the country, attributed to the influence of cyclone Arnab in the Bay of Bengal. Rainfall and snowfall are anticipated from Thursday, with intensification expected on Friday and Saturday.
According to National News Agency RSS, the cyclone is projected to intensify as it moves in a north-westerly direction, impacting Nepal’s weather patterns. This could result in rain and snowfall, particularly affecting the provinces of Koshi, Bagmati, Madhesh, Gandaki, and Lumbini.
The Department’s special bulletin emphasizes the likelihood of moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, especially from Friday through Saturday. While rainfall is expected to be widespread, certain locations in Lumbini Province may experience heavier downpours. Additionally, areas within the Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces could also face similar weather conditions, with heavy rainfall possible at isolated spots.
The Department has also highlighted the risk of heavy snowfall, blizzards, and avalanches in the country’s high-hilly and mountainous regions. Farmers are advised to take necessary precautions due to potential disruptions in the paddy crop harvest. Tourists visiting high-altitude areas are urged to verify weather conditions before traveling and remain cautious during adverse weather.
The anticipated weather changes could lead to colder temperatures and may potentially result in floods, landslides, road blockages, and air travel disruptions. The Department has called on the general public and relevant authorities to prepare adequately for these possibilities.
