Department of Passport to Issue 1,000 Passports Daily

Kathmandu: The Department of Passport has announced a plan to distribute 1,000 passports daily, addressing the increasing demand for travel documents. The department has clarified that this service will be available every day except on public holidays.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the Department has recently finalized a procurement agreement with a new supplier for electronic passports. The agreement, signed in Saun, outlines the development of new infrastructure and systems, which are scheduled to commence on February 23, 2026. This transition phase has caused some disruptions in passport distribution due to the handover and takeover between the current and new suppliers, compounded by a limited supply of passport booklets and high demand.

The Department is making efforts to prevent any shortages of passports during this transitional period and has advised that only those with urgent needs should apply for passports until further notice. They have also cautioned the public against relying on unauthorized individuals for passport services to avoid potential fraud.
