Doha: President Ramchandra Paudel has emphasized that developing countries, particularly the least developed ones, require not only resources but also technological know-how to advance their development efforts. “We need a just global trading system, fulfilled ODA commitments, climate finance, technology transfer, and increased investment,” he stated during his address at the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar. The President underscored the importance of enhanced support rooted in solidarity, fairness, and shared responsibility.
According to National News Agency Nepal, President Paudel expressed that the Summit would hold significant meaning for developing nations like Nepal if the international community takes concrete steps to support them. He viewed the Doha Declaration as a beacon for future actions, urging nations to transform commitments into tangible actions that ensure equality, dignity, and opportunity for all.
President Paudel highlighted that the Constitution of Nepal incorporates principles from the Copenhagen Declaration, envisioning a society where every citizen enjoys equal rights and opportunities. He stressed the importance of inclusive governance and empowering marginalized communities, including women, youth, ethnic and indigenous peoples, Dalits, and persons with disabilities, as central to Nepal’s national efforts.
He noted Nepal’s achievements in halving poverty since 1995, exceeding global averages in SDG progress, providing clean energy to over 95 percent of the population, and improving gender parity in all areas, including education. The President reported significant drops in maternal and child mortality rates and nearly ninety social security measures supporting the elderly, women, children, and persons with disabilities. Constitutional guarantees ensure representation for women, Dalits, indigenous peoples, and other marginalized groups.
Referring to recent global youth movements advocating for good governance, President Paudel reiterated Nepal’s commitment to safeguarding its Constitution and democratic system, announcing the election of members of the House of Representatives on March 5, 2026. He believed this election would offer political solutions and pave the way for good governance, development, and prosperity in Nepal.
In light of the adverse impacts of climate change, despite Nepal’s negligible carbon emissions, President Paudel called for global solidarity and cooperation to advance socio-economic development. He stressed that inclusivity and shared prosperity are essential for lasting peace and human dignity, urging collective efforts to design a future that ensures socio-economic development for all.
