Dhaka Calls Delhi’s Remarks on Dhanmondi 32 Incident Unwarranted

Dhaka: The interim government today criticized a statement issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs concerning the recent incident at Dhanmondi 32, labeling it as “unexpected and unwarranted,” and emphasizing that it relates to Bangladesh’s domestic matters. “A statement from India’s Ministry of External Affairs on this matter, issued on February 6, 2025, has come to the attention of the interim government. Such remarks from India’s foreign ministry on Bangladesh’s internal affairs are unexpected and unwarranted,” stated Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mohammad Rafiqul Alam during a media briefing at the ministry this afternoon.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Alam further expressed that Bangladesh has observed various challenging situations in the neighboring country, yet refrains from officially commenting on the internal affairs of any state. He stressed the expectation of reciprocal conduct from other nations. Alam, who also serves as the Director General of the Public Diplomacy Wing, highlighted concerns regarding ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s political statements made while residing in India, which, he noted, are not being well-received by the Bangladeshi populace.

The spokesperson clarified that the interim government has already outlined its stance concerning the events at Dhanmondi 32 on February 5, which followed one of Sheikh Hasina’s statements.
