Dr Bhattarai Resigns as Chair of Nepal Samajbadi Party

Kathmandu: Chairperson of the Nepal Samajbadi Party (Naya Shakti) and former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai announced his resignation from the party leadership today. Dr Bhattarai stated that his decision to step down was aimed at paving the way for a new generation of leaders in the evolving political landscape.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Dr Bhattarai addressed a press conference in Kathmandu, emphasizing the necessity of leadership transition within political parties. He expressed his commitment to continue working towards creating an alternative political force and fostering social transformation. Furthermore, Dr Bhattarai voiced his support for the recent Gen Z movement advocating for good governance, describing it as genuine. However, he also highlighted attempts by certain leaders and external groups to undermine the movement.

Dr Bhattarai urged the youth to exert national pressure to hold corrupt political figures accountable, asserting the need for thorough investigations and appropriate consequences for corruption, irrespective of the individuals involved. Additionally, he advocated for constitutional amendments to introduce a directly elected executive system, cautioning that without electoral and governance reforms, the country could face a more profound crisis.

The former chairperson encouraged Gen Z groups to engage actively in the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5, 2025, urging them to participate and assert their leadership.
