KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba recently engaged in a bilateral meeting with Wopke Hoekstra, the European Commission’s Commissioner for Climate, Net Zero, and Clean Growth. The discussions centered around enhancing Nepal-EU relations with a particular focus on climate change and clean energy development.
According to National News Agency Nepal, both parties emphasized Nepal’s leadership on the mountain agenda and explored ways to further collaboration in the areas of climate action. Dr. Deuba underscored the importance of continued EU support, highlighting the need for funding, technology transfer, and capacity-building initiatives to bolster Nepal’s mitigation and adaptation efforts.
Additionally, Dr. Deuba addressed aviation-related concerns, urging the Commissioner to help remove the provisions of the safety list ban on Nepali Airlines in European airspace. She highlighted the challenges faced by Nepali citizens due to the lack of direct flights from Nepal to Europe, seeking EU interventi
on to facilitate easier travel connections.
