EC Pledges to Honor Youths’ Sacrifice with Fair Elections

Panchagarh: Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah has affirmed the Election Commission’s (EC) unwavering commitment to conducting free and fair elections, acknowledging the sacrifices made by the country’s youth. “We are committed, we promise, we will repay the debt of blood that the youths shed by ensuring fair elections, InshAllah… However, it is a very big job,” Sanaullah stated during a views exchange meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room in Panchagarh on Monday afternoon.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting focused on the voter list update programme and was attended by data collectors, supervisors, and new voters. Sanaullah emphasized the EC’s role as a leader and coordinator, stating, “The Election Commission will only lead and coordinate from the front. Everyone will follow the work at the field level. Starting from the ‘chowkidar’, everyone is involved in this process.”

Sanaullah further assured that the EC maintains a neutral stance, stating, “We have no favorites, we have no side, we are only one side, the side of fairness, the side of justice, the side of fulfilling people’s rights.” He emphasized that the power to choose representatives lies solely with the people, not within the confines of official offices or intelligence agencies.

Addressing the issue of public trust, he noted that there was a time when people had lost faith in the voting system and showed little interest in becoming voters. “We need to restore trust by creating awareness,” he remarked.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Commissioner Md Sabet Ali, Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman Munshi, District Election Officer Md Enamul Haque, along with other officials, voter list information collectors, and supervisors.
