Farmers Field Day Observed in Thakurgaon Sugar Mill

Thakurgaon: Farmers of Thakurgaon Sugar Mills observed Field Day-2025 titled “Cultivation of profitable sugarcane companion crops and advance sugarcane cultivation with modern technology” at the mill today. On the occasion, a farmers’ gathering was held this afternoon at the east gate of the sugar mill.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Managing Director of Thakurgaon Sugar Mills Limited, Shahjahan Kabir, attended the meeting as the chief guest, with its General Manager (Agriculture) Abu Raihan presiding over the event. The gathering saw participation from BFIC General Manager (Mills Farm) Mohammad Shahid Ullah, mill officials, sugarcane farmers, and union leaders, among others.

The speakers highlighted the profitability of sugarcane cultivation in the current market situation. They emphasized that sugarcane is increasingly becoming a lucrative crop for farmers. An example cited was farmer Shahjahan Ali’s agricultural field, where five types of crops-potato, onion, garlic, lentils, and tomato-have been successfully cultivated as companion crops alongside sugarcane.

The event also underscored the benefits of advanced sugarcane cultivation techniques, which allow farmers to harvest twice a year with different varieties, leading to substantial profits. The repeated increase in sugar prices by the mills further assures prosperity for farmers who choose sugarcane over other crops.
