Kathmandu: The first National Mini Skate Marathon is set to take place on September 20, organized jointly by Skate Land and the Nepal Skating and Skateboarding Association.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the marathon will cover a five-kilometer distance, starting from Alapot of Sundarijal and concluding at Gokarna Talim Chowk in Kathmandu. Abrahim Rai, the founder of Skate Land, announced at a press conference that the event would feature 200 participants from Nepal, India, and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai).
This marks the inaugural national inline skating event in Nepal. Participants will compete for a gold medal prize that includes skate shoes, safety gear, and a cash reward of Rs 50,000. The silver medalist will receive skate shoes, safety gear, and Rs 30,000, while the bronze medalist will be awarded skate shoes, safety gear, and Rs 15,000.
The competition is expected to draw the best talent from over 300 skate parks currently operating in Nepal, along with more than 50 competitors from India. Achyut Khanal, Chairman of the Nepal Skating and Skateboarding Association, expressed optimism that the event would serve as a significant milestone for the development of inline skating and skateboarding as professional sports in the region.
