Floods Strand Tourists in Chum Valley

Siena:Chum Valley Tourists visiting the Chum Valley have become stranded after a flood in the Budhigandaki River on Sunday led to significant disruptions.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the flood resulted in damage to bridges and trekking routes, hindering the movement of tourists in the area. More than 80 tourists are currently stranded, as confirmed by the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP).

Local hotel entrepreneur Ganesh Karki reported that tourists are concerned about their restricted movement due to the damaged routes. In response to the situation, some tourists were airlifted to safety by the Nepali Army on Monday morning.

A hotelier in Chhekampar, Dorje Lama, noted that foreign tourists are particularly worried about visa issues that may arise from overstays caused by the flood-related disruption.

Assistant Chief District Officer Netra Sharma stated that the government has waived the need for helicopter permits when rescuing tourists in emergencies. Sharma emphasized that trekking companies can take initiative in such cases, but the government will also facilitate rescue efforts if necessary. Current efforts are focused on prioritizing the rescue of those affected in the flood-hit area.
