Kathmandu: Former Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha has emphasized the need for the House of Representatives election to align with the public’s aspirations for change. During an interaction organized by the Citizen Group focusing on contemporary political developments and national affairs, Shrestha highlighted the importance of addressing dissent and advancing democratic processes accordingly.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Shrestha criticized the current electoral system for its inability to enable any political party to secure a general majority, thereby hindering constitutional amendments in line with the demands of Generation Z. He called for national consensus, urging all parties to support this initiative.
Advocate Dr. Astha Dahal highlighted the necessity of ensuring voting rights for Nepalis living abroad, as guaranteed by the constitution, and urged the government to address this issue. Meanwhile, Manoj Kumar Gyawali, CEO of Nabil Bank, expressed concern over the lack of discourse on economic revolution in the country, suggesting that the proper utilization of resources could lay a strong foundation for the national economy.
Foreign affairs expert Dr. Nischal Nath Pande attributed the current chaos to excessive politicization and stressed the importance of holding elections on schedule to transition power to elected representatives. Gen Z campaigner Miraj Dhungana criticized the government for ignoring public aspirations, emphasizing the urgent need for good governance.
Bishnu Hari Dahal, Chairman of the Citizen Group, encouraged Gen Z groups to unite rather than advocate individually to effectively push for change.
