Kathmandu: The election of the free student union (FSU) has kicked off in the Tribhuvan University campuses across the country. The TU-affiliated and constituent campuses are holding the FSU elections to elect new leadership of various student organizations.
According to National News Agency Nepal, voting began at 8:00 am in 250 campuses affiliated with Tribhuvan University and 46 constituent ones. The voting, which started in most of the campuses, is set to continue until 4:00 pm. Pashupati Adhikari, member secretary of the FSU central monitoring and coordination committee, confirmed the commencement of the voting process across these campuses.
The election committees formed within the campuses are scheduled to begin the vote count immediately after the completion of the voting process. The FSUs, affiliated with various political parties, are actively participating in the election, with numerous candidates fielded for the leadership positions of the student unions.
Despite the mandate for Tribhuvan University to hold the FSU election biennially, it has not been conducted regularly since 2065 BS. The FSU elections were originally initiated in 2018 BS and were held annually until 2030 BS, after which the regularity of the elections diminished.
