Ganeshman Singh’s 110th Birth Anniversary Celebrated with Commemorative Programs.


Kathmandu: The 110th birth anniversary of Nepali Congress leader Ganeshman Singh is being celebrated today by organizing a variety of programs. He is popularly known as the supreme commander of the people’s movement that restored democracy in the country in 1990. Singh started his political journey in 1997 BS and became a prominent figure in 2046 BS, known for his efforts to abolish the monarchy which led to multiple imprisonments by the government of that time. His activism was also significant during the Anti-Rana Movement.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Singh was a key leader in the 2007 BS revolution for the establishment of democracy. He dedicated his life to restoring democracy in Nepal and was a fervent supporter of BP Koirala. Singh held the position of senior minister in the government formed after the first election in 2015. Following his release from Sundarijal Jail with BP Koirala in 2025 BS, he worked towards expanding political organizations while in exile in India. He returned to Nep
al in 2033 with Koirala, advocating for national unity and reconciliation, and remained a staunch opponent of the panchayat system.

After BP Koirala’s death, Ganeshman Singh assumed leadership of the Congress and spearheaded the Satyagraha movement of 2042. He collaborated with communist parties to launch the people’s movement against the Panchayat, ultimately becoming the supreme commander of the movement. In honor of Ganeshman Jayanti, the Nepali Congress, along with its affiliated and well-wisher organizations, is hosting various programs today to commemorate Singh and his invaluable contributions.

The Ganeshman Singh Foundation is organizing a special event at Shantibatika in Ratnapark as part of the celebrations.
