Government Extends Tax Payment Deadline Amidst Gen-Z Movement

Kathmandu: The government has extended the deadline to pay tax dues by one month, providing relief to taxpayers amidst ongoing challenges. Taxes for the month of Shrawan, originally due on 25 Bhadra, can now be paid by the extended deadline, as confirmed by Madan Dahal, Director General of the Inland Revenue Department.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the prevailing law requires taxes, including value-added tax (VAT) and excise duty, to be paid to the relevant tax office by the 25th of every month in the Lunar Calendar. This extension comes in response to requests from industrialists and businesspersons who approached Finance Minister Rameshwar Prasad Khanal, citing difficulties in meeting the original deadline due to the Gen-Z movement and recent political developments.

During a meeting with the private sector earlier this afternoon, Finance Minister Khanal assured that the deadline for paying taxes would indeed be extended by one month, acknowledging the concerns raised by the business community.
