Government Sensitively Working to Guarantee Peace, Security: Home Minister Lekhak

Kathmandu: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has stated that the government is seriously and sensitively working to ensure peace, order, and security for the citizens by maximizing the utilization of available resources. The minister made this assertion during his replies to lawmakers’ queries in a session of the National Assembly today, where he emphasized the government’s commitment despite limited resources.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Lekhak highlighted the various efforts that have been launched for policy and legal reforms since he assumed office. He assured lawmakers that their feedback, submissions, and concerns serve as important guidelines for his work. The minister argued that his speed and spirit of work align with lawmakers’ concerns about peace and security, service delivery, and disaster management.

Minister Lekhak informed the assembly that the Nepal Police Bill, Armed Police Force Bill, and Nepal Citizenship (Second Amendment) Bill are already in the parliament. He noted that discussions with stakeholders are ongoing regarding the necessity and relevance of additional policy and legal reforms. He also mentioned the progress in reconstructing structures damaged by monsoon-related disasters and the earthquake, with mechanisms under the Home Ministry actively working to implement laws promoting civic freedom, the rule of law, human rights, and democratic values as guaranteed by Nepal’s Constitution.

Meanwhile, during the zero hour, Suresh Kumar Ale Magar demanded the continuation of citizenship by descent for ex-British Gurkhas, expressing concerns over rumors that this provision might be discontinued.
