Dhaka: The government has given the green light for the procurement of 1,20,000 metric tons (MTs) of fertilizer and 30,000 MTs of phosphoric acid as part of efforts to meet the increasing demand within the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the approvals were granted during the fourth meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) held at the Cabinet Division conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat. Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Adviser to the Ministry of Finance, presided over the meeting.
The Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) will acquire 30,000 MTs of bulk granular urea fertilizer from SABIC Agri-nutrient Company, Saudi Arabia, for the fiscal year 2025. This procurement is part of the 15th lot and will cost approximately Taka 132.06 crore, with the price per ton set at US$360.83. Additionally, Fertiglobe Distribution Limited in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will supply another 30,000 MTs of the same fertilizer under the second lot, also costing Taka 132.06 crore and priced similarly per ton.
Furthermore, Qatar Energy Marketing, Qatar, will provide 30,000 MTs of urea fertilizer as part of the ninth lot for FY25, at a total cost of Taka 138.65 crore and a per ton cost of $378.83. Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) will supply an additional 30,000 MTs at Taka 129.47 crore, with each ton costing $353.75.
The BCIC is also set to procure 10,000 MTs of phosphoric acid for TSPCL from M/S Zentrade FZE UAE, manufactured by M/S OCP SA Morocco, at an estimated cost of Taka 75.37 crore. Additionally, 20,000 MTs of phosphoric acid for DAPFCL will be sourced from M/S Sun International FZE UAE, with manufacturing by M/S Guiangxi Pengyue Eco-technology Co. Ltd, South Africa, costing around Taka 149 crore.
