Jhapa: Strong winds coupled with hailstones in the district of Jhapa have resulted in significant damage to crops over the past month. The intense weather conditions have adversely affected maize farms, vegetables, fruits, and beekeeping activities in the area.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Chief of the District Agricultural Knowledge Centre in Jhapa, Sagar Bista, reported that agricultural losses amounted to Rs 3.19 billion, with additional damages to crops valued at Rs 1.72 billion across all 15 local levels in the district. Maize farms experienced the greatest destruction in comparison to other crops.
Among the 15 local levels, Bahradashi Rural Municipality endured the most severe impact, with approximately 75 percent of maize crops compromised during this period. Bista noted that maize farming across roughly 840 hectares of land suffered damage.
