Dhaka: The judicial functions of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court remain suspended from 2pm today in respect to former chief election commissioner (CEC) Justice Mohammad Abdur Rouf.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a notice uploaded on the apex court website announced that the retired judge of the Appellate Division, Justice Mohammad Abdur Rouf, passed away at Insaf Barakah Kidney and General Hospital in the city’s Moghbazar at 9:55 am today.
“The judicial activities of the High Court Division will remain suspended from 2 pm in respect to the deceased,” stated the notice, which was signed by Supreme Court Registrar General Dr Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan.
Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed mourned the death of Justice Mohammad Abdur Rouf, who served as the country’s fifth CEC from December 25, 1990, to April 18, 1995.
