Nawalparasi:Heavy vehicles have been restricted from using the bridge over the Narayani River due to heightened safety concerns caused by the river’s swelling.
According to National News Agency Nepal, local authorities have restricted the movement of heavy vehicles on the bridge, which connects Chitwan and Nawalparasi along the East-West Highway. The decision follows reports that the aging infrastructure of the bridge began to shake, prompting police to limit access to motorcycles only.
Anil Pande, the information officer at the District Police Office in Nawalparasi, stated that, in addition to prohibiting heavy vehicles, pedestrians were also asked not to gather on the bridge for photos or videos to minimize risk. With these restrictions in place, vehicles are currently being held at both sides of the bridge, in Gaidakot and Narayangadh.
The Narayani River’s water level was recorded at 11.91 meters at 150 pm, measured from Devghat. The floods have also affected settlements along the riverbank, inundating areas such as Gaidakot, Kawasoti, Madhyabindu Municipality, and Binayi Triveni.
