Hockey stars demand to reform hockey

After football, volleyball and cricket, there is

a call for change in hockey as the present and former star hockey players and

organisers demanded to reform the country hockey.

They also gathered at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium today (Tuesday)

and took part a human chain by placing a seven point demand. The former stars

who participated in the human-chain program have urged to dissolve the

current hockey committee within the next three days and form an ad-hoc

committee with qualified organizers, including those who were deprived at

different times.

They also demanded the resignation of the entire committee, including the

general secretary of the current illegal committee and later presented the

memorandum to the National Sports Council.

Hockey’s former hockey player Rafiqul Islam Kamal and another legend Mamun-

ur-Rashid, who took part in the human chain, express their concern over the

hockey’s fragile state and urged to form ad-hoc committee in hockey as early

as possible.

Kamal sa
id: “I pray for the salvation of the souls of those who were martyred

in the anti-discrimination movement of the student-people. The current

context in hockey in the country needs to change and I have come here to

demand that change. We’ll request the Sports Advisor to dissolve the present

committee and form a new committee with everyone.”

In this regard, Mamun-ur-Rashid said: “For the last 10-15 years, a group has

deprived the players and organizers. Hockey did not improve as it was

supposed to be. We want it to end.”

He said the federation would run by its own rules. There would be a healthy

environment and everyone can play freely. There should be no tyranny or

arbitrariness and qualified people will never be evaluated there.

Mamun also emphasized to evaluate the qualified organizers so that the

federation can run smoothly.
