Infiltrators in Gen-Z Protest Attempted to Undermine Democratic Values: NC Spokesperson

Kathmandu: The spokesperson of the Nepali Congress, Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, has highlighted the need for unity within the party to protect democratic principles amidst recent unrest. During a press conference held at his residence, Dr. Mahat accused certain groups of attempting to infiltrate the Gen-Z protest with the aim of attacking democratic values.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Dr. Mahat pointed out that while the absence of a parliament has not been opposed, the government should proceed in a constitutional manner. He acknowledged a flaw in not establishing a parliament and stressed the importance of restoring a democratic process and an elected government as soon as possible.

Dr. Mahat condemned the acts of arson that occurred at significant locations such as Singha Durbar, the Parliament building, the Supreme Court, and the President’s Office, as well as private residences and businesses during the Gen-Z demonstrations. He expressed strong disapproval of the violence and destruction perpetrated by forces that threaten democracy and civil rights.

The spokesperson refuted allegations that all political leaders are corrupt and expressed sorrow over the attack on Sher Bahadur Deuba, the president of the Congress party, and his spouse, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, both of whom have been longstanding advocates for democracy.

Dr. Mahat concluded by stating that the party will conduct a balanced and thorough discussion to derive conclusions on the recent events and the implications for the party’s general convention.
