Kathmandu: The International Day of Happiness is being celebrated today with a variety of programs worldwide. The United Nations General Assembly declared March 20 as the International Day of Happiness on July 12, 2012, to emphasize the importance of happiness and well-being in people’s lives.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the resolution to observe this day was initiated by Bhutan, a nation that has prioritized gross national happiness over gross national income since the early 1970s, adopting national happiness as a central goal.
In addition to the International Day of Happiness, today also marks the celebration of French Language Day globally. The United Nations recognizes six official languages through dedicated language days, including French, Arabic, Chinese, English, Russian, and Spanish.
The UN began observing French Language Day on March 20, 1970, to commemorate the establishment of the ‘Agency for Cultural and Technical Cooperation.’
