Dhaka: Primary and Mass Education Adviser Professor Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy Podder today emphasized the importance of developing an “IQ test” method to evaluate the intelligence of primary school students, highlighting its necessity for the country’s education system. He urged all involved parties to approach this initiative with sincerity and dedication during a meeting where the Clinical Psychology Department of Dhaka University presented a proposal for the IQ Test manual, according to a press release from the ministry.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has already initiated efforts to draft the test manual aimed at assessing the IQ levels of government primary school students. The presentation was led by Dr. Mohammad Kamruzzaman Majumder, a professor from the Clinical Psychology Department, while the meeting was chaired by the ministry’s secretary, Abu Taher Md Masud Rana.
The meeting saw participation from several key figures including Masud Akhter Khan, chairman of the inter-ministerial committee for effective cooperation and technical assistance for the development of the IQ test, and additional secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. Other notable attendees included Hazera Khatun, joint secretary of the social welfare ministry, Dr Md Shahanur Hossain, chairman of the Clinical Psychology Department, and Dr Helal Uddin Ahmed from the National Institute of Mental Health.
An eight-member inter-ministerial committee was established on January 14 to ensure effective collaboration and technical support for the development of IQ test-based education. The additional secretary (schools) of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has been appointed as the committee’s chairman. The committee comprises representatives from various sectors, including the Department of Primary Education, Health Services Division, Ministry of Social Welfare, Department of Health, Department of Social Services, and the National Academy of Primary Education, with the deputy secretary (school 2) of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education serving as the member secretary.
