Justice Must Be Ensured for People: Chief Justice


Chattogram: Terming Chattogram Bar as one of the richest bars in the country, Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed urged the lawyers to uphold the dignity of the judiciary through mutual respect. Justice must be ensured for the justice-seeking people through a cordial relationship between the bar and bench for establishing good governance in the country, said the chief justice while speaking as chief guest at the annual banquet of the Chattogram District Bar Association (CDBR) last night.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, CDBR President Mohammad Nazim Uddin Chowdhury presided over the function, while Supreme Court Registrar General Dr. Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan, District and Sessions Judge of Chattogram Mohammad Saiful Islam, Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Nurul Islam Manik, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Mizanur Rahman, Chief Judicial Magistrate Kazi Shahidul Islam, Bangladesh Bar Council member ASM Badrul Anwar, and a large number of lawyers were present on the occasion. CDBR general secretary Mohammad Ashraf Hossain Chowdhury Razzak delivered the welcome speech while secretary Md Kashem Kamal moderated the programme.



Earlier, Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refat Ahmed visited Chattogram Court Building to observe the judicial functions of several courts under the jurisdictions of district and metropolitan sessions judge courts. During this time, he exchanged views with the lawyers and judges. Later, the chief justice planted a sapling of a Bakul tree in front of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court building.



Mentioning that the judiciary cannot function without any party, Chief Justice Ahmed stated that it is possible to build a corruption-free judicial system through the joint efforts of judges and lawyers. In response to a demand from CDBA leaders for establishing a High Court circuit bench in the district, he said steps would be taken to resolve the court crisis in Chattogram.
