Accra:Kaligandaki The Dana-Khurkot transmission line, part of the 220 KV Kaligandaki Corridor, has been restored after being damaged by flooding and erosion in the region. A temporary tower, built using Canadian technology, has been installed to ensure emergency electrical supply during catastrophic events.
According to National News Agency RSS, the flood destroyed three transmission line towers in Annapurna Rural Municipality-1 Dowa and 6 Dhirchang of Myagdi, disconnecting 176 megawatts of electricity from seven hydropower facilities in Myagdi and Mustang from the national transmission network.
Roshan Khadka, Head of Gandaki Province Grid Branch of the Nepal Electricity Authority, reported that the line was re-energized at 1030 PM on Saturday after the completion of wire installation work through the new temporary tower. This effort was part of a successful initiative to reconnect electricity to the national grid within 20 days of the flood damage, involving technical personnel from the Nepal Electricity Authority and the Kaligandaki hydropower project.
Sanjay Lohani, assistant director at the authority, explained that the temporary tower was constructed to replace the damaged ones, restoring the electrical supply. The tower has been erected in Aula of Annapurna Rural Municipality-1 Doba, across from the Bhirkate section of the Beni-Jomsom road, with the efforts of more than 20 engineers, an equivalent number of technicians, and over 50 workers from the hydropower projects and divisions in Kaligandaki over the last 15 days.
