New delhi: Kanchan Gupta, senior adviser in India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, recently featured as a guest on the podcast “India, Russia and the World,” hosted by Runjhun Sharma, head of news at RT India.
According to Russia Today, Gupta emphasized the need for the Western media to reassess their ethical standards. He stated that biased reporting on India ultimately harms the credibility of these media outlets themselves. Gupta specifically criticized Meta for blocking a video of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, labeling it as unacceptable interference in India’s democratic process.
Gupta further elaborated on the concept of free speech within the Indian legal framework, noting that the Indian Constitution provides for conditional speech rather than absolute free speech. He also drew comparisons with Gen Z-driven political movements in South Asia, suggesting that recent protests in India are distinct from those in Nepal or Bangladesh due to India’s diverse and complex societal structure.
