Karnali Province Born of People’s Sacrifices: Chief Yagya Raj Joshi Emphasizes Legacy and Progress


Surkhet: Chief of Karnali Province, Yagya Raj Joshi, highlighted the significant sacrifices made by the people in the establishment of Karnali Province. During the celebration of Karnali Province Establishment and Martyrs’ Day 2082 BS, he called on the provincial government to honor the legacy of those who attained martyrdom by promoting the rights and interests of its citizens.



According to National News Agency Nepal, Chief Joshi noted that the transition to federalism has brought about progress in Karnali’s development and improvements in the lives of its citizens. He emphasized the importance of utilizing the province’s rich natural resources and collective willpower to effectively manage the budget and implement a governance system based on rewards and accountability.



Province Speaker Nanda Gurung remarked on Karnali’s unique position as the youngest of the seven provinces, yet the first to be named. She praised the implementation of federalism for uplifting people across various castes, communities, and sectors.



Political figures such as Raj Kumar Sharma from the CPN (Maoist Centre) and Jeevan Bahadur Shahi of the Nepali Congress urged the federal government to change its perception of Karnali. They highlighted the necessity of strengthening provincial and local governments for the effective implementation of federalism.



The event witnessed participation from province ministers, the District Coordination Committee chief, province secretaries, local representatives, heads of security bodies, government employees, civil society representatives, and media personnel.
