Lahan: The Lahan Municipality, in collaboration with Sagarmatha Chaudhary Eye Hospital, has successfully provided free eye treatment to 15,000 residents over the past three years. The initiative, which has included 2,000 cataract surgeries, aims to alleviate eye problems among residents regardless of their financial situation.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the municipality’s commitment was highlighted during the inauguration of a free eye check-up camp at Dhodna, Lahan-15. Mayor Mahesh Prasad Chaudhary emphasized that the program ensures no citizen suffers from eye issues due to lack of funds, with all expenses covered by the municipality. The initiative will extend to all 24 wards of the municipality this year.
Rabindra Lal Chaudhary, Chairperson of Sagarmatha Chaudhary Eye Hospital, noted that the hospital treats approximately 2.5 million eye patients annually. The hospital collaborates with local entities to conduct eye check-up camps, utilizing skilled personnel and technology.
Hospital’s chief administrator, Abhishek Roshan, encouraged regular eye examinations every six months due to the rising cases of diabetes, which contribute to severe eye diseases. Bindeshwar Chaudhary, Chief of the Municipality’s health section, stressed the importance of raising awareness for timely eye examinations to prevent blindness.
