Kathmandu: Members of Parliament (MPs) in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) raised a range of public concerns including ensuring timely payments to dairy farmers. They also drew the attention of the government on issues such as road safety on the Karnali Highway, healthcare services, disaster risks, and consumer protection among others.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during the Zero Hour of today’s session, lawmaker Madhu Kumar Chaulagain of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) urged the government to implement the investigation report on alleged irregularities at the Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) and to ensure that dairy farmers receive payments on time. Other RSP lawmakers also voiced various concerns, such as consumer fraud, telecommunications in remote areas, and developing Ghandruk as a tourist destination. Issues like land ownership certificates, shortages of medical supplies, and recurrent monsoon flooding were also highlighted by RSP parliamentarians.
Lawmakers from opposition parties such as Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML presented their demands as well, focusing on contemporary national issues. NC lawmaker Bharat Bahadur Khadka drew attention to delays in rebuilding homes for Jajarkot earthquake survivors, and Man Maya BK emphasized the need for measures against violence and discrimination towards the Dalit community. CPN-UML’s Rajendra Kumar Rai mentioned that around 7,000 dairy farmers in Dhankuta district await payment for supplied milk to a state-owned corporation.
In the Emergency Hour, MPs from Karnali Province urged the government to intensify the search for a passenger bus that plunged into the Karnali River in Dailekh district five days ago. They stressed the importance of upgrading the Karnali Highway and curbing road accidents. NC Chief Whip Basana Thapa and other lawmakers criticized the lack of progress in locating the missing bus, calling for updates and accountability from the government. The passenger bus with registration number Karnali Province 02-001 Kha 1055 veered off the road and plunged into the river, sparking calls for improved road safety measures.
Lawmakers from various parties continued to press the government for timely action on these critical issues, emphasizing the need for improved infrastructure, safety measures, and accountability in addressing public concerns across the nation.
