Kathmandu: Altogether 20 candidates contesting for two vacant seats in Kirtipur municipality in Kathmandu in the upcoming by-election are keeping busy with election campaigns to lure voters. The by-election taking place on coming December 1 to fill 42 vacant seats across the country is also set to be held for ward chairperson post for ward no 1 and 4 in the Kirtipur municipality.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the election is drawing significant attention due to Kirtipur’s proximity to the federal capital city, Kathmandu, and the opportunity to elect the highest number of representatives at the local level. Indira Karki, Chief Election Officer at the Kirtipur Municipality, highlighted this interest, noting the strategic importance of these elections.
Neeta Pokharel Aryal, Spokesperson and Joint-Secretary at the Election Commission of Nepal, stated that the silence hours will come into force from midnight of November 28. Hence, election campaigns are currently in full swing. Aryal also mentioned th
at the Election Commission is actively monitoring compliance with the election code of conduct and focusing on voter education initiatives.
Chief Election Officer Karki emphasized that all candidates are conducting their campaigns uniquely while maintaining cooperation by attending all-party meetings organized by the Commission. Kirtipur Municipality has a total of 31,112 voters, comprising 15,095 males, 16,015 females, and two identified as others. Karki assured that the election campaigns are proceeding peacefully and cordially.
The Election Office is receiving full support from all candidates, Karki added, stating that all decisions are made unanimously rather than by majority.
