Kanchanpur: A locality here has been named as ‘Bipin Chowk’ to honor the late Bipin Joshi, who tragically lost his life after being kidnapped by Hamas during the Israel-Hamas conflict.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the inauguration of ‘Bipin Chowk’ took place this evening in Malikarjun Tole, Ward No. 3 of Bhimdatta Municipality in Kanchanpur district. The ceremony included the naming of the locality in Bipin’s memory, accompanied by lighting of butter lamps in his name.
Ward chair Gagansingh Dhami announced that an annual cricket tournament will be held in Bipin’s honor, recognizing him as a former player from the ward. ‘We had hoped for two years that the courageous Joshi would return home safely, but he made the ultimate sacrifice to protect his friends,” he stated.
In his memory, plans are in place to display Bipin’s photograph in the new ward office and host an annual cricket competition featuring participants from the ward, added Chairman Dhami.
Chairman Dhami noted that, reflecting the wishes of local residents, the ward has been named ‘Bipin Chowk’, and steps will be taken to secure formal approval in the upcoming Municipality executive meeting.
The lamp-lighting event was attended by Bipin’s sister, Pushpa Joshi, along with other members of the community.
