Mahato Appointed as RSS Chief Editor Amid Departmental Reshuffle


Kathmandu: Shital Prasad Mahato has been appointed as the Chief Editor of the National News Agency, Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS). He assumed office today. The RSS management has undertaken several departmental reshuffles aimed at enhancing the effectiveness, efficiency, quality, and accountability of its services.



According to National News Agency Nepal, a letter signed by RSS Executive Chair Dharmendra Jha confirmed Mahato’s transfer to the Chief Editor position from the administration section, where he previously served as Chief Administrator. Mahato has been a permanent journalist with RSS since 2056 BS, having worked extensively at the former Narayani Zonal Office in Birgunj, as well as in roles such as news reporter and editor at the RSS central office. He also held the position of Central Secretary for the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ).



Former Chief Editor Uttam Silwal has been assigned the role of Managing Editor, a position provisioned under the revised RSS Regulation, 2082 BS. Silwal has held various positions at RSS, including Chief Reporter and Chief Administrator.



Additionally, Yekraj Pathak, Deputy Chief of the RSS News Division, has been reappointed as Chief Reporter, a role he previously held. Narayan Prasad Neupane, the former Chief Reporter, has been named Coordinator for investigative news and podcast services at RSS.



Silwal, Mahato, Pathak, and Neupane took on their new responsibilities today in a ceremony attended by RSS General Manager Sandip Rai.
