Kathmandu: The CPN (Maoist Centre) has decided to unite with different left political parties within some days. A meeting of the party secretariat held today decided to convene a meeting of the immediate past central committee on November 3 and sort out the unification process, Maoist Centre’s Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota said.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Sapkota explained that the Maoist Centre is planning to unify with the CPN (Unified Socialist), Mahindra Raya Yadav-led Janata Samajwadi Party, CPN (UML)’s splinter Prem Bahadur Singh, Raju Karki-led CPN (Socialist), and Jana Samajwadi Party led by Subash Kafle. Discussions are also ongoing to potentially unite with a faction led by Chiran C, which split from the party of Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’.
Sapkota emphasized the importance of uniting with all left parties, stating that any delay in the process could weaken their efforts in national politics and push the country towards further instability. The unification is also strategically timed with the upcoming March 5 elections to the House of Representatives.
Despite the decision, there is some internal opposition. Party leader Janardan Sharma voiced his dissent against the unification efforts, arguing instead for strengthening the Maoist Centre independently. Sharma expressed his views and subsequently left the meeting in protest.
