Maoist Centre to Convene General Convention by Mid-December, Dissolves Central Committee

Kathmandu: The CPN (Maoist Centre) has dissolved its central committee (CC) and decided to convene the party’s general convention by mid-December. This decision was made during a two-day-long central committee meeting held in the capital city, as shared by the party’s Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota.

According to National News Agency RSS, the meeting has entrusted the responsibility of coordinator of the general convention organizing committee to party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. The existing CC members will serve as the general convention organizing committee members. Sapkota also noted that a secretariat comprising the sitting office-bearers will be formed to conduct the party’s general convention and manage daily activities.

The Maoist Centre has expressed its intention to ensure maximum participation of Gen-Z in the upcoming general convention. Additionally, the party plans to form a commission to examine the property details of its leaders, with the investigation starting from the office-bearers. In his concluding remarks at the CC meeting, Chairman Prachanda announced the decision to make the property details of all leaders public and to form a commission for their investigation.

Sapkota mentioned that the party would review the operation modality of the party central office, leaders’ secretariat, and their family management affairs. The CC meeting concluded that national sovereignty and democracy were at risk, prompting the Maoist Centre to advance the unification process with likeminded political forces.

The meeting also resolved to fully prepare for the upcoming elections scheduled for March 5. During the CC meeting, 10 separate groups were formed to discuss Chairman Prachanda’s political report, and the conclusions of these groups were shared at the meeting. Sapkota reported that the team leaders of all 10 groups supported the political report presented by Chairman Prachanda.

Additionally, Prachanda emphasized that the party cannot continue to operate in its previous manner and called for the adoption of new procedures. He urged the party leaders to transform their lifestyles and cultural behaviors in alignment with the party’s evolving objectives.
