Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel, has directed the subordinate bodies of his Ministry to forward a process to enroll employees in the social security fund (SSF). Minister Kharel issued such a directive during the first quarter review of the fiscal year 2082/83 and the Development Action Committee meeting organized at the Ministry on Wednesday.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Kharel emphasized the need for public service broadcasting to be reliable, effective, and of high quality, urging innovation and creativity in content. He called on the Nepal Telecom Authority and Nepal Telecom to achieve the expected outcomes and urged the Security Printing Centre to distribute driving licenses as it has commenced printing them.
The Communications Minister also tasked the relevant bodies with making all ministries of the federal government paperless by mid-February, emphasizing that going paperless is crucial for digital transformation. Currently, the Finance Ministry and Communications Ministry have transitioned to paperless operations. Minister Kharel advised the ministry’s subordinate bodies against delaying service delivery to the public, expressing confidence in their support and anticipating positive achievements in the next quarter’s meeting. He affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to facilitating suggestions.
Minister Kharel also instructed the Department of Information and Broadcasting to prioritize pension programs for senior journalists. Secretary at the Communications Ministry, Radhika Aryal, highlighted the need for government activities to be conducted more dynamically through new styles and technology, attributing the current situation to governmental weaknesses. She urged subordinate bodies to increase capital expenditure, boost revenue, and clear dues.
On the occasion, several key figures, including Chairperson of Public Service Broadcasting Nepal, Dr. Mahendra Bista, General Manager of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) Sandip Rai, General Manager of Gorkhapatra Corporation Lal Bahadur Aire, Chief Officer of Press Council Nepal Jhabindra Bhusal, Executive Director of Security Printing Centre, Dev Raj Dhungana, Chairperson of Telecom Authority, Bhupendra Bhandari, and officiating Manager of the Nepal Telecom, Sabina Maskey, presented the progress details of their respective agencies.
