New York: Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, addressed the 58th session of the UN Commission on Population and Development in New York today.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Paudel highlighted Nepal’s progress in reducing child and maternal mortality over the past three decades. He noted a decrease in child marriage cases and an increase in the use of family planning contraceptives within the country.
Minister Paudel emphasized Nepal’s commitment to enhancing health facilities for its citizens, while acknowledging that government efforts alone are insufficient. He stressed the importance of international cooperation and solidarity for ongoing improvements in health indicators.
The Health Minister also informed the international community about the challenges posed by budget limitations and infrastructure shortages in remote areas, which hinder the delivery of convenient health services. He pointed out that climate change poses additional risks to previously achieved health progress.
In his address at the UN commission event, Minister Paudel called for increased foreign assistance to help Nepal tackle challenges in the health sector.
