Birgunj: Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel has committed to providing free treatment and medicines to patients suffering from diarrhea and cholera at Narayani Hospital in Birgunj. During his visit to assess the outbreak of these diseases in the region, Minister Paudel instructed the hospital management to ensure that patients receive necessary treatment services without any fees.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Paudel emphasized that the hospital should supply medicines required for treating diarrhea and cholera patients, at no cost. He stated, “I urge the Narayani Hospital to manage medicines of any kind to the patients coming here for diarrhea and cholera treatment without any fee.” He further added that if the drugs following the World Health Organization’s protocol are insufficient, the hospital should provide additional medicines as needed.
During his visit, Minister Paudel also inquired about the health services being provided and any grievances patients might have. It was noted that some patients had to purchase certain medicines. In response, the minister instructed the hospital management not to charge patients for any tests related to diarrhea and cholera.
Minister Paudel assured that medicines will be arranged at any cost through coordination among the three tiers of government, emphasizing the Ministry’s commitment to prevent further outbreaks by ensuring adequate medicines and health human resources.
The Medical Superintendent of Narayani Hospital, Chuman Lal Das, reported that a total of 48 patients are currently receiving treatment for these infectious water-borne diseases at the hospital.
