Ministers Discuss Strategies to Combat Cholera Outbreak in Birgunj


Birgunj: Minister for Drinking Water and Minister for Health and Population Pradip Paudel convened to address the cholera outbreak in Birgunj city. During their meeting at the Ministry of Health and Population, the ministers focused on control and prevention measures to tackle the ongoing health crisis.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the meeting led to an agreement to ensure the availability of cholera kits in the affected areas of Birgunj. The ministers also resolved to provide immediate treatment facilities tailored to the symptoms of infected individuals, arrange for free checkups in private hospitals, and deploy sufficient human resources to manage the outbreak effectively.



The ministers emphasized the need for coordination among all three layers of government. Joint Secretary at the Drinking Water Ministry, Kamalraj Shrestha, highlighted the importance of collaboration with stakeholders, civil society, and the local community in controlling the outbreak.



In a related development, the Central Security Committee decided to deploy a team of medical practitioners to the cholera-affected regions in Birgunj, aiming to strengthen the response to the health emergency.
