Miraz hands prize money to family of martyred rickshaw puller

Bangladesh allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz handed

his ‘man of the series’ prize money to the family of a rickshaw puller who

was martyred during the student-led Anti-Discrimination movement.

Miraz was key behind Bangladesh’s landmark 2-0 series victory over Pakistan.

“I won the man of the series award for the first time outside the country. I

will never forget this moment. This is dedicated to the students who died in

the anti-discrimination student movement. A rickshaw puller was injured in

that movement. He died later. I want to give the prize money to the family of

that rickshaw puller,” Miraz said after winning the award.

Miraz handed over Pakistani rupees 500,000(Tk. 2.14 lakh) to the family of

the rickshaw puller on Wednesday. He confirmed the news today through a post

on social media.

“Recently I saw a video that spread online. The words of the crying voice of

the child of a rickshaw puller killed in the anti-discrimination student

movement in the video touched me,” Miraz posted with a pict
ure with the

family of the rickshaw puller.

“I vowed to stand by that brother’s family. I promised to hand over the money

I got from ‘Man of the Series’ to them. Finally the goal was fulfilled. I was

able to hand over this money to them yesterday.”

“I know, this money is nothing compared to the life lost. My purpose is to

make their lives a little easier with this little money.”
