Kathmandu: The Kathmandu District Court has remanded Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leader Rabindra Mishra, medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai, and 24 others to custody for an additional three days. Leader Mishra and Prasai were arrested in connection with demonstrations, vandalism, arson, and other incidents that occurred in Tinkune, Kathmandu, on March 28.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Police Superintendent Apilraj Bohara, spokesperson for the District Police Complex in Kathmandu, stated that the court has extended the custody period to allow for further investigation. The decision followed their appearance in the Kathmandu District Court.
Eighty-five individuals were initially arrested and investigated, with 21 released on bail. Currently, 64 people remain under investigation. Among those, 24 individuals including Prasai and Mishra face charges of crimes against the state, specifically treason, as well as organized crime. The remaining individuals are charged with aggravated assault and organized crime.
The protests, organized by monarchists in Tinkune, turned violent, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, including a journalist, and injuries to dozens more. Government and private properties were also set ablaze during the unrest.
