NA Chair Dahal Engages with UK, China, and Sri Lanka Delegations on IPU Assembly Sidelines


Geneva: Chairperson of the National Assembly (NA), Narayan Prasad Dahal, held separate meetings with parliamentary delegations from the United Kingdom, the People’s Republic of China, and Sri Lanka during the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland.



According to National News Agency Nepal, Dahal, who is attending the IPU Assembly from October 19 to 23, engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening mutual relations and enhancing cooperation in international forums. His bilateral meetings focused on fostering collaboration between Nepal and these nations.



The Chinese delegation was led by Tian Xuejun, Chair of the IPU Asia Pacific Group. Fabian Hamilton headed the UK delegation, while Sunil Watagala led the Sri Lankan delegation. During the meetings, Dahal updated the delegations on the recent Gen Z-led demonstrations in Nepal, the formation of an interim government, and the announcement of fresh elections for the House of Representatives set for March 5, 2026.



Dahal reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to conducting the elections as scheduled and emphasized the nation’s dedication to strengthening its democratic system. He also requested support from these countries in reconstructing infrastructure damaged during the demonstrations and in ensuring the successful organization of the upcoming elections.



Highlighting Nepal’s vulnerability to climate change, Dahal called for international support to help developing countries like Nepal address and adapt to its impacts.
